Sock It To Ya!

There are so many things/projects I have been wanting to do. Time hasn't presented itself often enough though. Today though is another story! Thank you to Megan over at Brassy Apple for this idea ( http://brassyapple.blogspot.com/2009/01/arm-warmers-tutorial.html ) While Notre Dame was playing I sat and made some leg warmers for my oldest. The cold weather has been making its self knowen lately prompting me to make these. Today while we were at Walmart we had gotten some Halloween knee high socks (2 pairs) for this project. I have been dieing to do this! I originally wanted to do Hello Kitty, but those are at another store - those will be purchased some time soon before they are no longer avaliable.

Before (these were paired up with the after ones):

I cut the feet off at the heel of the foot. I folded them under twice to help prevent them from unraveling and then whip stitched them with some embroidery thread (it was already on the needle and matched, otherwise it would have been thread):

Cute huh?!!

These could probably be warn as arm warmers too. They could be pulled down over your hands, but you would need to cut a slot for your thumb to fit. Still they are super cute and very stylish for a not quite 2 yr old.

Next, a stool remade. Yes, terrible two's have made their way into our house. She needs a little time out every now and again. I'm making a stool just for the occasion. Pictures coming soon.

Initial felted clippies

Thank you to Simply Modern Mom for inspiring this little project. She had done hers free hand, but I just couldn't. I say that only because I can't always write the neatest let alone freehand stitch something to my liking. These are very simple to make, but with so many projects that are not yet complete and so many other things that have taken priority they have. Here it is:

Homemade pancake mix and cinnamon sauce

I confess that I am a junkie when it comes to watching food cooking programs. That in addition to collecting a ton of recipes, which are not always made. But one day while watching Food Network this had came on and I had to try it. A basic homemade pancake mix that you can have as a staple in your pantry for those weekend breakfast. I recently came across a similar version of it, but with a little extra umph to it.

Instant Pancake Mix

4 C  Flour
2 tsp Baking soda
3 T   Baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 C Malt Powder
1 tsp  cinnamon

For every 1 cup of mix add:
1 egg
1c milk
1T melted butter

If you want to get fancy you can add some Cinnamon Sauce to them once they are cooked. My husband loves this stuff. I haven't made it in quite some time and he hasn't asked for it. I think he forgot about it. By the way, I can not take credit for this. I had found it while leafing through some cook books at a book store - I didn't buy the cookbook.

Cinnamon Sauce

1/2 C  Butter
3/4 C  Brown Sugar
3 T     Half and Half
1T      Cinnamon
1/8 tsp Salt
1/8 tsp Cloves (ground)
1 T      Flour

Melt butter over medium heat.  Add brown sugar, 2T of half and half, cinnamon, salt and cloves and cook while stirring constantly until mixture comes to a simmer. Remove from heat. Add 1T half and half and flour.
The mixture will be think, but is ever so good!

Diaper wipes

With having two under two you know there is alot of diaper changing going on. If your a mom you know that it can become costly. After having my youngest I found out from other moms that you can make your own wipes! So it was then I had begun to make my own. The best recipe I had found is this one, thanks to a fellow mom. Recipe is as follows:

2  c. water
1/2 c. baby oil
1/2 c. baby/ magic baby bath - I have used what ever I have on hand or what I can find cheapest.

Mix everything together. I keep the mix in a cheap disposable container so its ready when I am. Recipe is enough for 2 and 1/2 rolls of paper towels. Best paper towels I have found for this is Bounty.

This would make for a cute baby shower gift if you feel creative enough to make it look all cutesy. Happy diaper changing!

Beyond pillowcase dresses and bows

What a busy week getting back into the swing of school schedules. In addition to that I have been making sure a little girl is getting to and from school. Squeezed between that and an appointment to the dr I have made a few flowers. I wanted to come up with something that would be original to me. With a little playing I came up with it. Here it is!

Im pretty proud of it! I need to attach backing to it so that I can be used either as a pin or a clip. My next task will be to part from it.
